Privacy Policy
How Spotr handles your data
Spotr (“we”, “us”) is a place-discovery app that helps people find and share under-the-radar spots. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Spotr is operated in connection with spotr-discover.web.app.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. Email address, password (stored by Firebase Authentication), display name, username, bio, and optional profile/cover photos.
- Content you create. Spots (titles, descriptions, categories, vibes, photos, map coordinates / area), plans, comments, likes, saves, collections, reports, and related messages.
- Location. If you grant permission, we use your device location to show nearby gems and to attach a place when you share a spot. You can deny or revoke location access in system settings.
- Device & notifications. A push notification token (via Expo / Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send activity alerts you opt into. Basic device/app diagnostics may be processed by our infrastructure providers to keep the service running.
- Support messages. If you email us, we receive whatever you include in that correspondence.
2. How we use information
- Provide, maintain, and improve Spotr (feeds, maps, search, plans, explorer progress).
- Authenticate you and secure accounts.
- Send in-app and push notifications about activity you care about (likes, comments, plans, etc.).
- Moderate abuse (reports, blocks) and enforce our Terms.
- Comply with law and protect users’ safety.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising in the app today.
3. Sharing
We share data only as needed to run Spotr:
- Firebase (Google). Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Storage for media, Cloud Functions, and push delivery pathways.
- Expo. Build/update infrastructure and Expo’s push notification service.
- Google Places / Maps-related APIs. When you search for or confirm a place while sharing a spot.
- Other users. Profile details and public content you post (spots, comments, plans you’re part of) are visible to other Spotr users according to the product’s design.
- Legal requests. If required by law or to protect rights and safety.
4. Data retention
We keep account and content data while your account is active. If you delete your account in Settings, we delete associated personal data from our primary systems as described in our Data deletion page, usually immediately in the app, except limited records we may retain for security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance (for example, abuse reports).
5. Your choices
- Update profile information in the app.
- Make your profile private (hides bio, spots list, and stats on your profile page; spots you already published may still appear in public feeds).
- Control location and notification permissions in device settings.
- Block users and report content.
- Delete your account and associated data from Settings, or email us.
6. Children
Spotr is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). During sign-up we ask you to confirm you are at least 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. International processing
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. By using Spotr, you understand your information may be transferred to locations with different data-protection rules than your own.
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of Spotr after changes means you accept the updated policy.
